1998 unopened bottle of Etchart Cafayate Chardonnay, is it still good? Its been kept on its side in dark?

  1. It's wine, gets better with age.. As long as it wasn't laying on the floor in a basement, it should be perfectly fine.


  2. It's an Argentinian wine. Lots of new world wines aren't necessarily made to age. Being kept in the dark didn't hurt, but it's the temperature that it's been kept at that is more important. If it has seen a lot of heat, it may not be too great. Even if it has aged perfectly, it may come as quite a surprise to you - it won't resemble a new chardonnay that you'd be used. All that being said, the only way to really know is to open it up and give it a try (and have a backup bottle of something else in case this one is bad).
