1999 Grand Cherokee repair question

Today as i was driving my 1999 Quadatrac all-time 4WD 99 grand cherokee at 60 mph the front end slammed and i had to pull off to the side right away, if put in drive it popped really loud....

ANYWAY my trusted mechanic called and said that i need a completely new front end differential done.

My question is, does anybody know how much this will cost (parts, labor included) and how many man-hours (days) would it take for an average mechanic shop to fix? (His ballpark guess was around $1500.)

I just want some input from you guys. thanks

  1. alot depends on the hourly rate at the shop you go to, and where he is getting the parts. Ask for a written estimate and call around for the parts . Ask your garage if they will install parts that you bring in . also check his labor rate then all around locally to see if anyone is cheaper
