  1. its not because of car like the previous answer... would you think that because of car the lights are on all the time? No. the manufacturer VW is actually very good cars and they wouldn't sell c**p to people right?. i Had one Before. you have to change lights. that's the answer! enjoy the great car and trip to the Baltimore.... excellent city... visit the center of the city and the port and aquarium =)

  2. if it runs fine you will be ok to drive for now some times the check engine light comes on when their is a stupid problem

  3. do you have the manual?  it will tell.  there are a number of things that can cause it, most mean take it to the mechanic... depending on what the light is doing, blinking, it means take it now.

get rid of the car though.  the 99-05 Jetta's were some of the least reliable cars sold in the US in the last 15 years.  (i had one, the major car reporting agencies agree)

  4. It could be anything. Could be minor could be major. I have an '03 GTI and my check engine light has been on for months. Its because of a hose leak in my oil cooling system. I patched it and the light stayed on because I never went to the shop to get it turned off. The car runs like a champ, all day everyday.

Check your fluid levels, check the airbox make sure its sealed, watch your temp. as you drive. If you don't notice any weird performance problems or unfamiliar noises, you should be fine.
