1999 Windstar. battery good and charged. alternator 7 months old. starter will not turn over with the key. ?

However, it will turn over by jumping the two starter terminals. Van still does not start. Is there a relay or something else that can cause this. Thanks

  1. my family owns a 2001 and it has a little black antitheft control device almost looks like a crappy flashlight. the van will not turn over with it removed. it goes under the steering wheel


  2. ignition switch on lot's of ford recall call dealer if you're van on list of

    recall

    also do u have anti theft alarm


  3. Does it have a celenoid (sp?)? not sure if autos have those anymore...when I was younger I had a car that had good battery and alternator...would only click when key turned...had to replace the celenoid.

  4. Assuming you remembered to turn the key on while you were turning it over, perhaps the issue is in the switch itself, However my first thought was solenoid. you might consider hot wiring it with power going straight to the coil.
