1rst time cruiser...Carnival Destiny 12/29/08?

Question

So I have planned a family cruise with age range 18-60. We will be stopping at Nassau, Bahamas ; Half Moon Cay, Bahamas ; Grand Turk ; Miami, FL.

Just wanted to know some great shore activities for everyone and if we should go ahead and book them with the cruise line?

Also I have heard mixed things about Carnival in particular the Destiny ship and just wanted to get some opinons on your carnival cruise.

Last thing we are returnig to Miami on Saturday morning and we want to stay overnight what are some great food spots and nightlife spots for us to check out? Hotels would be great also...Thanks in advance I know its a lot!

So how was the Destiny???? I'm going on it with my hubby and kids and some friends in April...and I'm a little nervous due to the things I've suddenly been hearing about it. Thanks!
