1st Birthday..???

Question

My nephew is turning 1!

I want to get him a present that my sister-in-law will appreciate too (not for herself but appreciate that it is something good for him).

I was thinking a CD of nursery rhymes but worried they might drive you crazy if the songs are sung by some mad people!

Or like a nice money box - but that's a bit lame and he certainly wont care about that...

Any ideas?

All the Mum's out there - any gifts you kids got that you were really impressed with??

For my daughter's first birthday she got a potty chair. It made me laugh and it was something she really could use.

Children's books, that have thick pages, clothes for him to grow in-to(this helps parents out so they don't have to buy so much in the future--like for a 1 1 /2 yrs old and up) new curtains for his room!, a children's lamp, one to hang up on the wall-- there are some cute ones out there!

A big toy box! Maybe even one that looks like a bench. He'll definitely use it for all his toys! Kids get so much stuff these days.

Avoid stuffed animals..kids get too much of that, but you may know this already! If in doubt, ask the mother what he needs! I'm sure she'll know and you can get several ideas and pick one or 2. Depending upon how much you want to spend.

A toy that he can hold to and walk behind (they make lots of those) or a very little scooter to sit and ride on using his legs to move it.  He's one.  You're right, he won't care about the nice money box and the nursery CD would drive me bonkers after 1 time.
