  1. Don't be afraid to fall. because you said this pony was very fast just squeeze a little and then sit back, lean back, keep your heels pointed, and continue to squeeze the sides of your pony. It's not a big deal at all

  2. When you get on be confident. Horses can feed off your emotions and if you are nervous then the horse will know and take advantage of that.If you get on feeling confident and with the mindframe of being in control and having fun then you will have an awesome ride! Good Luck

  3. use your thighs to grip the horse- pretend there's a basketball between your knees, and you've got to keep it from falling.

Also, a lot of times, horses with fast trots have nice, smooth canters. Canters are easier to sit then the trot, because they're usually as easy and nice as a rocking chair, while the trot is a bit jarring.

Keep the reins medium length- you don't want to let them slip out of your fingers, or you won't have any control, but you don't want to restrict the pony from cantering, either.

Really, don't worry. I cantered when I was 5 years old, and I didn't have a problem. You'll be okay- it's soooo much fun. Like flying. Be excited, not nervous!

  4. just relax and if you feel like thinks are starting to get a little out of control, don't hesitate to stop or slow down
