1st b-day toys?

Question

My sons 1st b-day is coming up in a couple wks, what toys are or were your 1 yr olds favorite?

A relative gave my daughter a personalized music CD for her first birthday, and she still loves it at 4-1/2.  It took a few months for her to realize they were saying her name, but when she did, her reaction was amazing!  I've put a link below that leads to the cheapest I've found.

Wooden blocks are a really great developmental toy that he will enjoy for several years as well.

A tricycle or some sort of riding toy is also a real favorite at this age.  Something without pedals, because pedaling probably won't come to him for another year or two.

Push/pull toys and something like the playskool ball popper (I've put links below) are really fun for this age too, though if he's not close to walking yet you may want to wait on the push toys.  One hint, though - look for a musical roller for him to push instead of the popping balls push toy.  The music is less irritating than the pop sound.

Something my daughters really loved, and still do, were simple books, like "Good Night Moon," "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," and any version of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."

I got my son a couple of items from Discovery Toys that he absolutely loved.  One was a tower that he could build and balls would travel down the ramps, and the other was a boat that he could hammer balls into and the balls would travel through it.  Those toys are very sturdy!!!

get him a keepsake item so when he sees pictures and he is older he will know he has had it for a long long time. Maybe a curious george stuffed animal or a mint coin for the year he was born. start him a stamp collection, or a baseball card collection, as far a toys, balls, balls and more balls. All boys love balls! find a toy you drop balls into and they pop back out or roll down and roll out.

my son loved and still loves (he is now two) all of the laugh and learn toys. Also you can very rarely go wrong with almost anything little tikes. For his 1st birthday we got him the fort and swing set from little tikes. It was perfect for him and he STILL plays with it!

my daughters favorites were the walk/ride car from wal mart. also the sit and spins, oh my goodness she loved that thing!! she also had a serious obcession with cell phones, only the flip phones. they sell those at wal mart as well. you kind find all kinds that play alot of music. needless to say 6 months after her birthday, i found myself taking the batteries out so i didn't have to hear it go off. lol good luck :)
