  1. wow! the big one, my son will be turning one soon too (Nov)! and ive booked a room at a playland for him. Ive invited around 25 kids and its great, the playland sorts out the food  for the kiddies (ages are from 8months-12years). Ive sorted out a couple of party games and ive already started buying stuff for the party loot bags for the kids to take home. this is great for me as I am a solo parent, and dont need to feed the adults! hey its all about my son! right!

OR picnics and bbq's are fun too!

  2. Invite family only. At age one, your baby is too young for friends and babies love the antics of older children better anyway.

  3. i had a big 1st birthday for my son, despite everyone saying he wouldn't have fun especially with too many people.

my son had a blast!  he wouldn't even take a nap!  he was walking already so he enjoyed walking up to everyone and playing with them.

i would probably say we had about 100 people!  i didn't expect it to be so big, but that is how my family is... big parties.

he won't remember it, but we have lots of pictures to show him later.  he got so many gifts and he had a lot of fun.

i ordered all the decor and party stuff at birthday direct online http://www.birthdaydirect.com/1st-birthd...  $55 and up free shipping and 3 day delivery.  couldn't find a better deal anywhere else.

EDIT TO ADD:  i had a big party because many family members, especially from out of town did not see my son by his first birthday.  i planned the party months ahead and gave everyone notice so family members were able to travel to see him.

  4. I'm a mommy with two girls.

I didn't have a 1 yr old party for either.  They didn't mind.

I invited only the grandmas and grandpas from both sides.  It was plenty, believe me.

Babies can get overstimulated at their 1st party.  It all depends on how much YOU want the party, and how much work you want to do.  The baby won't remember it.  In the "What to expect, The Toddler Years,"( I read this book religiously with my first child,) They suggest not having one as well.

Go to Family Fun.com for party ideas if you really want a party.

Above all else, don't forget to get that first picture of that first taste of cake! LOL! It's the best!

    Have fun.

  5. 1st Parties are fun if they have a favorite character then you can theme the party with it my daughters 1st was winnie the pooh we ran with it and found lots of things on line and info on goggle it can be as involved as you like it is best to get the attending adults involved in the party as well as having extra hand to coral kids and clean up. we have had a theme party for Alisha every year we aren't rich we just watch the net and buy stuff about 6 months in advance. it ia all about what the child is into at the age they are into it. this year was rubber ducks

  6. Keep it short, small and simple.  Babies tend to get cranky quickly if there is too much chaos going on around them.  2-3hrs tops.  Immediate family.  You baby will probably won't get to cranky or wound up if it's people they know and trust (grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles).

I also recommend baking your own cake or cupcakes.  Bakeries tend to use a lot of unhealthy additives you don't need.  If you make your own, you know what you're baby will be eating.

  7. Make sure the birthday girl/boy has a nap before the party. Try to have the birthday party in the after noon after nap time. This is what I did. Do keep it short, play, open presents, then cake. Because you don't want the birthday girl/boy to get tired and cranky from playing. So keep a schedule it is hard cause there will be people there to talk to that you may have not seen in a while. Also make sure they have their own cake to tear into, they may not dive right in, but that is what 1st birthday's are all about.

  8. im planning my baby's 1st too and hes not even born yet!!

Its hard cos they wont remember but there will be pictures and video ... so dont get drunk haha!!

The theme doesnt matter you can choose that one based on what you like for your baby ... but make sure to have lots of fun things for any toddlers and kids that will attend ... :)

    Good luck

  9. for my son first birthday i made a cake. we had cake and ice cream his grandparents come over had other family over. i made a chili supper.

  10. Invite family and friends. The baby will have a good time and so will you.  Let the baby feed itself cake.  It is fun to watch and the baby will just enjoy it.

  11. does your child go to nursery? if so have a party there take in some cake and a camera and let them get on with it. Then have some family over in the afternoon and have a fancy dress party theme and a barbcue and get a friend to dress up as a clown and entertain the children! when the kids are in bed the big people can have some fun x
