1st birthday party - at a hall - decorating help...?

Question

any suggestions on how to turn a large and boring rental hall into a fun - wow look at how nice they decorated - for a boy's 1st bday party? i've never done this before. thank you.

If you don't need all the space, enclose just a portion of the area with creative table placement so it doesn't seem quite so overwhelming.  I went to a wedding at a hall that the family decorated themselves and the nicest part was draping tulle from one side of the room to the other.  Look for a colored tulle (besides white).  That helps bring the room to a tolerable size too.  You could drape the tulle (even white if it was significantly cheaper) and make a pocket for bright colored balloons to lay in.  At one year old, there's that fear of choking on popped balloons but you still get the fun of it.  Get some helium balloons for the corners or at the door.  Bright colored table cloths and cute toys for centerpieces (they can be ones from home or from the dollar store in case you're afraid people would take them home) will go a long way.    Everyone loves to see their name in big letters...you can spell out his name on posterboard sheets - one letter for each posterboard and make each a bright color and then hang them all in order on a main wall.  Don't forget to decorate at the door when they come in and near any important turns to heighten the excitement.  GOOD LUCK!

try using bright, astonishing, kid-like colors. table cloths, maybe a little center piece on the tables...if there's gonna be other toddlers or small children there as well, in a safe corner, try setting up little toys or a fun activity where maybe a fellow guest can keep a watch on the kids as well. that way the children won't get bored or have a small fit if they are bored or a bit picky.
