we're having my daughter's party at a park, under a pavilion. we were going to bbq but we don't want my husband to be stuck at the grill. what are some simple things we can serve? we're going to have pasta salad and fruit salad. for cold items how would we keep them cold? use 2 dishes and have ice in the bottom one? the colors we're using are aqua blue, orange and pink. should i do all blue table cloths with pink and orange tableware? or mix up the table cloth colors?

  1. at my cousins first birthday, it was all pink. they gave out candy bars with personalized wrappers that said "____'s first birthday!" and the birthday girl got her own special mini "baby cake" (all ingredients safe for little kids) that she squashed all over her face-- she was soo happy! lol just have fun with it!!!

  2. I think if you mixed up the colours it would be cool. But I wouldnt stress in general. Its your daughters bday and at the age the only thing that will matter is who is there and what she is doing. Just have nibbly foods like finger sandwiches, salads, cold chicken, crackers/carrots/celery/chips with dip, etc. You could even ask some of the guests to bring a plate. For keeping it cold, try and get a chilly bin, they work really well. =D

  3. Another guy can BBQ for you. As for the simple things, make sandwiches. To keep them cool, put them in a cooler. You can mix it up.

  4. Don't worry about the colors, you're probably the only one who will notice.  I agree that you should try to find someone who can grill for you, or if that's not an option, go to a place like KFC and get some fried chicken, which will taste fine hot or cold.   As for keeping the other salads cold, I think its a good idea to just put the ice in the bottom dish.  If you have any leftovers, wrap them up after everyone eats and store them in a cooler.  As for drinks, you could fill a kiddie pool with ice and put the drinks in it.

  5. Does your hubby have a friend that would be willing to run the bbq for you ? - or do you know a teanager that would help out ? It would only be for a couple of hrs at most then hubby would be able to spend time enjoying the party. From my experience young kids usually only eat hotdogs  - my son wont even eat the bun but if there will be other adults you will probably want some mode adulty food - burgers/chicken wings would be fine.

I wouldnt stress too much about the color scheme - you are probably be the only one that would notice if your cooler mathced the ballons - your daughter certainly wont care. Relax and enyoy the day.
