I'm 26 years old and looking to buy my 1st car. I would like a Renault megane, will it be expensive to insure? I've just passed my test, so I'm a new driver.

Thanks in advance

  1. Without any no-claim bonus erika any car will not be cheap to insure, though at 26 you are a year over the magic 25 barrier when insurers consider you less likely to be an instant menace on the road.

We all choose cars that appeal to us so you will get alternative suggestions. My son is a mechanic at a Renault approved repair garage and knows all their models well. The Megane is a good car and has a very good crash test rating.

you might want to bear in mind though that Renault are not generally rated as one of the more reliable car makers, though they tend to be let down by niggling faults rather than actually breaking down. In the UK the Consumers Association do a yearly reliability survey on cars. Their list for 2006/2007 covered 30 makers and, sorry to report, Renault came LAST!  The top 10 were all from the far east and were, in this order -

Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, Daihatsu and Kia.

  2. For car insurance the obvious way to get a fantastic rate is do a rate comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you choose similar policies with the same deductibles, car type, location, etc so that all options are a good comparison.

What I most often recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have discount insurers and can give several prices on car insurance polices.

  3. two things when geting insurance the engine size the biger the more money and if the car is not english because the spares are more money

  4. hi congratulations¬! im a new driver azwell well was about 8 months ago,i checked out various cars, and found out from many friends that cheapest insurance for new drivers is on a peougeot 306,i drive one now, and insurance is about £900!

    tke care .......

  5. it all depends on the make, age, engine size of the car and who you go with all depends on how much your insurance will be.Doing a Pass Plus course will knock the price down a bit for you.. I passed my test june '06 aged 28 and i drive an '87 volvo 740 estate, the cheapest insurance i got was for £450  a year and that was with Admiral. A small car with a small engine should be ok as long as it does'nt come into the " boy racer "  bracket eg, corsas, vectra, focus. Congrats on passing your test and have fun looking for your new car. x

  6. It's always best before buying a car to get a quote, so you knowhow much it's likely to cost.
