1st physical contact with hamster today did i do ok?

so i've had my new hamster for 8 days now, 1st 3 days i left him alone 4th,5th,6,7th day i rubbed my hand in his bedding and then left my hand in his cage he moves around it and would occasionally sniff and never bites me...now today i lured him into a cup and i placed him and cup on my bed he got out and tried escaping of course but i blocked everything he even climbed my chest all the way to my shoulder to try and escape i cupped him and stroked him gently and for a split second it looked like he liked it cuz he stood still but still looked scared and then tried escaping from my hands again, finally i didnt want to stress him out too much so i put him back in his cage he sniff my hand again then started running on his wheel with a look that said"what the h**l just happened?...did i do ok? should i try again tomm for another 5 mins or wait?

Sounds like it went ok. Leaving it for a few days was the right choice and graduallygetting it used to your smell is a good way to introduce yourself. Next time try taking him straight out of his cage, fuss him for a little while then put him back. Do this a few times through the day so he knows that being handled always leads to be putting back in his home.
