with any off road trail their is a chance you won't be seen if hurt and a greater chance of death.  i take it you not in the USA, here you can off road in the dark. but give some one an itinerary, and the area you would be trailing.

as for maint. a proper pretrip on your cycle (motor or petal)is the best time to get all ready for you ride and doing this when the shops are open helps doesn't do any good on working on your bike when there isn't any place to get the parts you need to replace
