1st trip to Europe - should we book a tour or just explore ourselves?

we are in our 20's and we only have about 10 days to hit two countries in europe so we are not sure if we should do a tour or just go ourselves and perhaps book a tour there or 2 if needed.

I have always made my own arrangements and just book day tours based on what looks interesting (after considering the weather). However, a tour might be OK if its itinerary looked really good AND it was with a group of people I could be fairly certain would make decent travel companions.

Your plan to visit two places in 10 days is realistic, but remember that 4 or 5 days in a city like London or Paris is barely enough time to hit & run visit all the famous sights.

explore on your own, get a rail saver pass, go through france to south then get train through to italy from nice, thats what I did and it was fantastic!!!youll be able to find v cheap hostels, the ones we stayed in were great, and good value for money

have wonderful time!!!

Go by yourselves because you have all the freedom  to go where ever you want and it's more of a fun adventure.

Just do a bit of research first so you have an idea of what you want to see and do. That way you won't go home from your trip thinking "why didn't we do that?"

I went backpacking in Europe for a month and stayed only 2-3 days in each country. You will have more time than you think you do to explore. Not having everything planned turned out to be half the fun as we ended up doing things we never would have otherwise. I found that just asking locals of ideas for things to do was a great idea. You often got some fantastic ideas you would never have known of otherwise. Or tips about some great little cafe on a backstreet somewhere...

Besides, if you are going to any larger cities then they usually have a fairly cheap city tour you can do if you then wish.
