  1. The eye of the ship is its captain.  He (or she) must see all, know all, and be all to the crew.  Even if it is a daysailor on a pond, the skipper must know what to do, how to do it, and, most importantly, be able to pass that knowledge on to his crew.

The heart of the ship is its crew.  They perform all the actions required for the ship to do its job.  Whether it is trimming a sail, swabbing a deck, or steering a course, without a crew, a ship is a piece of flotsam.

My main goal as a seaman is threefold: 1) have fun, 2) increase my skill level, 3) pass my knowledge on.  I have been a sailor for more than 10 years.  I learned as an adult, and have sailed boats from a 10 foot O'Day Sprite up to a Freedom 45.  It is my favorite hobby, and if I could make a living doing it, I would.

  2. The look out is the eye of the ship> The engine room is the heart> The main goal of a seamen is to arrive alive?
