  1. no

  2. Hey mate dont forget

    Chelsea 5-0 Milan

    Arsenal 1-0 Real Madrid

Huge gap...I dont think Celtic even beat Milan at home last year?

  3. Results of pre-season games don't really count for much given the reason for them in the first place and the fact that clubs are, for the most part, find them more advantageous and competitive than inter-squad games. However, regardless of that, I still can't see either of the Old Firm making any better headway in Europe this season than they did last. Rangers are already half-way to proving my point as it is. Face facts lads (and lassies), the standard of Scottish fitba' is well short of competing consistently with the 'big' leagues of Europe and looks like so being for some time to come.

  4. well there is a huge gulf difference when it comes to the amount of cash we have to spend in comparison to EPL Teams but in competative matches we (Celtic) have done well against English teams, thats when it really counts but if you really wanted to take friendlies into consideration then there isnt much difference and possibly that difference would be in Celtics favour!

  5. Don't think so friendlies rarely count for anything after all last season Rangers beat Chelsea in a friendly.

  6. Pre-season friendlies prove nothing.

If Top English and Scottish clubs meet in European competition, it is always close and the Scottish sides do well.

  7. admittedly there is a huge gulf between them regarding money etc but remember the last time Celtic played in a competitive match against an EPL team? Man U?

sometimes players play from the heart not the wallet

  8. There is obviously a gulf now caused by the massive infusion of money in the Premiership, still I would think that most fans up here would feel we could comfortably hold our own against those teams outwith the top 4 over the course of a season.

Its not going to happen but if they got in and then got the money that is awash in the game in the premiership then they would easily challenge for trophies after a period, as the brand went up and worldwide interest increased some rich american, russian, emirate prince would pay over the odds for them to squeeze money from the fans.

On a brighter note at least the national side are on the up, wonder if the gulf in class between Scotland and England has reached a watershed!!!!

    btw - good question.

  9. pretty much yeah.......its all about the money its all about the dom dom ditty dom dom....sorry about that i got carried away lol

  10. i agree with those who say they were only friendlies but the english market is absolutley sky high in terms of prices and even AC Milan cannot compete, in fact there are only a handful of clubs who can match them financially around the world.

The problem with us being Scottish teams is that we are in the same country (the UK) and in a seperate league.  So its natural for two clubs in the SPL who are large teams to compare themselves to the English clubs - we have for years prior.  We can compare and exceed them in many cases in terms of support, stadia, worldwide recognition and most other factors, the only obvious difference is the money.

The championship is now the fourth biggest league in europe in terms of money and it alone shows how much difference there is.

And lets be honest, players dont go to the premiership, unless it is one of the top 4, to win trophies.  They go to make money.

  11. yes

  12. No because they were only friendly games and you can't read too much into these results, after all these are just experimental games.

These results are not typical of the way results turn out when the old firm meet prem.sides in Europe. There is howerver a difference in class between the top four in the Prem and the Old firm, but the same difference in class, also exists between the top four and the rest of the prem.I know others outside the top four do get results against the top four, but so would we if we played them on a regular basis.

  13. as billy said the gulf money wise alone is frightening when championship sides can pay more in transfer fees and wages

  14. there is a massive difference between friendlies and competitive matches and as adele said our teams tend to have more of a heart than them and our recent record has been excellent. in saying that, it used to be the case that the very very top players plied their trade in spain or italy but that is changing because of the obscene money being offered by clubs down south. 200k a WEEK man city offered ronaldhino. MAN FECKING CITY.

  15. make your own judgements what i do know when it comes to europe the gulf is'nt that big as i know celtic and the gers equip themselves well against these so called super teams

and on that subject do you feel it's fair that both old firm should be in the group stages

i say both should be in?

  16. Nae danger comrade, it was merely a wee warm up, he gave some of the kids a wee run out and didn't take any chances by overplaying it ! Wise move !  We all know how good Celtic and the gers can be when it really matters...and it's fair to say that on our game we can mix it with the best !!!  Granted, Celtic's away results aren't too great (we've been very unlucky at times and just rubbish !) but our home results aren't bettered by many !!! Any gulf, is down to the gulf in money !!! We can hold our heads high !!!

  17. Not at all, just look at Celtics record against EPL clubs in competitions where the result really matters!

  18. No, I have said it before, friendlies mean nothing!!

  19. It was only friendly but yes

  20. Celtic's 2002 / 2003 European campaign answers your question.  Couple of EPL teams in there.

  21. Indeed.  The financial gap between the old firm and the top English sides is gigantic.

  22. a gulf?..more like an ocean..and do you know what mate next year it will be even wider and the year after that!..they have grown and I think there is no way back Im afraid..

  23. No - if you look at the last couple of seasons, rankers beat chelsea 2-0 pre-season and celtic beat man utd in the champions league - it can be done!

  24. No doubting the gulf in money but in class? No not at all. As some have mentioned, once the serious stuff gets going then we Old Firm teams can hold our own. Look at Celtics exploits against EPL sides in recent years. Rangers beat Chelsea last year and then went on to the Uefa Cup Final at the expense of 5 EPL sides. I'd love a more level playing field but we are a small nation and should be proud of how well we perform in terms of Europe.

These friendlies just give the lads a good run out and I don't read too much into them. I bet Spurs would love to be as successful as Celtic.

  25. pre season friendlies mean nothing celtic have a good record against english teams in europe p.s i follow none of the above clubs

  26. Well you cannot draw too much of a conclusion as they are friendlies but i do think the gulf is pretty wide
