Question:

2 1/2 Month Old Suddenly Fussy?

My baby girl has been kind of fussy today. She's usually normally happy and likes to play. But today, she played some and ate but she's been crying more & acting almost as if she's scared or in pain. Just now she was sleeping and then all of a sudden she cried like she was in pain and I ran over there and she looked up at me with this sad look and whimpered. As if she was really scared or in pain. And she had the big bottom lip like she was really sad. It took me a little bit to calm her down (I let her nurse a little bit- even though she's not hungry since she had eaten only about 20 minutes before that). Anyway, I'm going to call the doctor but does anyone have any ideas? Also, she has 2 round circles of red dry skin that all of a sudden popped up. Could this have something to do with it? She's had skin issues since birth but could this be something else?

Please I really appreciate the help I'm very worried.

  3. Hi,

I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine.  I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!

  4. try not to worry. she is not scared. she might have a tummy ache. the round red circles are not enough detail to really know.  If they are flat and round with a ring in the middle it could be ringworm (which is NOT a worm) and can easily be cured. OR they could be eczema which can also be treated easily. Neither one would cause that sort of discomfort, but eczema can itch. I am glad you are taking her to the dr soon, that will ease your worry. She will be fine. Sometimes they go through these spells and they clear up as fast as they arrived. You are a good mommy to be aware of this. Try to stop worrying. Our children will cause us enough worry and grief in our lifetimes to fill a book and they usually turn out just fine!!
