  1. my baby was eating 4 to 6 ounces as soon as he was born. your baby might be the same way. try giving your baby a little bit more to eat and if  he is still fussy call the doc.

  2. Some times the parents feelings rub off on the child.  My step sis is stressed out to no end because the baby daddy doesnt want anything to do with her anymore and just wants to see his baby.  She calls my step dad crying about how the baby cries all the time.  Its because the mommy is not happy.

Try giving your baby an change of scene, also try changing whats in the bottle, if its breast milk then you may need to change something you are eating.  Everything is trial and error with an child to certain points.

I would suggest if this lasts more than another week if you are not going to the doc before then get him in.  Just to make sure he is ok.

    Good luck

mother of one and one on the way.

  3. I am a first time mom as well.  I had a baby this past March.  He was fussy a little in the beginning too.  I was trying to pump and give it to him and it wasn't enough.  I started feeding him formula.  I thought I had to feed him a certain amount of food and that is it.  Surprisingly he would stop eating when he didn't want anymore, and they eat slower when they are tiny babies.

I say try to feed him a little more.  That could very well be it.  What's the worse thta could happen.  He may spit up some.  They say if you over feed a baby they spit up.  This may be so.  He may be going through a growth spurt and wanting to eat more.

My 5 month old is eating 6 ounces now and baby food.  He is a healthy boy.  All babies are different.  Good luck and God bless!

  4. Try feeding him more, my baby  3 weeks tomorrow and has been drinking 5 oz for a week now. If they can handle it and not spit it up then they are fine.

  5. I am a mother of a three year old. Have you tried changing his formula, some just don't suit some babies. Maybe even try just a little bit more milk not a lot just an extra 10 ml. Any simple changes can cause bub to become unsettled, coming home from hospital, dad going back to work, family coming to visit newborn. There is always child health nurses that you can contact aswell. Try ringing your local hospital and they should be able to give you contact details. Congrtas and good luck.

  6. honestly, i would rule colic out (my boy had it for 4 1/2 months and it wasn't always at the same time) and i would take him in to see if he may have reflux.  he may be over-tired.  give him a nice warm bath and a swaddle whenever he gets this way, see if that helps.  my boy passed gas and burped a bunch but was still colicky and gassy.  it seemed as if i couldn't burp him enough.  congrats on the new baby and good luck with everything!

  7. Take a breath and relax, you are doing great!!!! I found that having a newborn is like being a recovering alcoholic, you have to take it one day at a time. By the time my son was three weeks old he was eating 120ml of formula, so just give him more food. change him regularly and give lots and lots of cuddles. you will start to see the routine emerge and he will get less fussy.

    Good luck

  8. He can sense if your tired or stressed so you have to take care of yourself, get someone to help with the baby so that you can relieve stress. Try singing to your baby and rocking him, and you could also read to him, he might just want some stimulation, also he could be hungry, babies dont always eat the same amount because they grom in spurts, so if he wants more, feed him more, maybe try 5 oz next time and see if it works!  Best of luck!

  9. Ummmmm....he's probobly still hungry! At two weeks old, if he wants to eat more, than feed him more!!! Goodness!!!!!! Have you always done that.......only fed him 4 ounces at a time and then not anymore when he is still hungry? I bet he is just always a hungry baby cause he never gets the chance to be full...

  10. Please ask your pediatrician before attempting any of the following recommendations below...they always know best...

We had similar issues with our son when he was a little over a week old.

He only liked one type of pacifier (at first) called the Soothie Pacifier.  So we bought a whole bunch of Soothie Pacifiers, and now he likes all of the pacifiers!

Supposedly, sucking on a pacifier is like heaven to a baby.  It is the adult equivalent of receiving a back massage.

I don't know if you've tried a pacifier yet or not, but I hear that excessive crying can give your baby more air (which eventually equals more crying and more gas) and pacifiers help soothe the baby when they are crying.  We find them especially helpful when our son is impatiently waiting for his bottle to warm up.  Then, when the bottle is ready, we just switch him over from the pacifier to the bottle.

Also, we switched to Similac Sensitive Formula (it is Lactose Free) and switched to Platex Ventair bottles.  (We were using Enfamil Lipil at first, then switched to Similac Advance, then made our final switch to Similac Sensitive with Iron.)  (We were also using the Avent and Soothie bottles before we switched to Platex Ventair.)

Our son (3 weeks old) is currently waking up for a bottle every 3 hours and taking 4-4 1/2 ounces at a time.

We also give him cereal derived from oatmeal (not rice) called Gerber DHA Oatmeal Single Grain Cereal and it seemed to really help him calm down.  We add a 2-3 teaspoonfuls of the oatmeal cereal to every other bottle (per our doctor's recommendation).

Rice cereal is constipating and Oatmeal cereal can give diarrhea, so the choice of cereals depends on the bowel movement types.

We warm all of his bottles--which he loves.  He will not take room temperature or cold bottles--and those seemed to give him more gas and constipation.

Sometimes, even though infants are passing gas, they could be constipated or gassy inside. Sometimes the Iron in the formula can constipate babies terribly.

Our doctor told us we could give our son a laxative called "Little Tummies" (again, make sure it is okay with your babies doctor before trying anything that I've tried. Some doctors don't want you to even switch formulas without talking to them about it first).  And although this medicine (Little Tummies) was messy when it worked, the results were worth it!

We burp more frequently than recommended (before we start feeding, we burp him and every 1/2 ounce) and we gently massage his belly in circular motions when we think there might be gas inside (this would be separate from feeding him his bottle, of course).

Sometimes we lay him on his belly with his head turned to either side and massage his back, and this helps him get gas out.  We never lay him on his belly to sleep or leave him unattended while on his belly.

We keep him upright by holding him for at least 30 minutes after he finished his bottle, to make sure he doesn't regurgitate his food.

We occasionally give him mylicon (for gas reduction), but we only use it as a last resort.  I hear parents say mylicon is a blessing, and I hear other parents say it didn't do anything for their baby.  It seems to help our baby.

We also changed our baby's wipes to Pampers Sensitive and his diapers to Pampers Sensitive (because he was irritated with the other brands) and we don't put the diapers on too tight, because we don't want his gassy belly to have that much pressure on it.

We always put ointment on his bottom (every diaper change)and private area (we're alternating between Desitin Overnight Relief and Aveeno Diaper Creams) and it seems very soothing.  We stay away from powder.

We play him kid songs, lullabies and classical music with the lights down low (and free of people that might stimulate his fussiness) and hum or sing along to the music and he relaxes with that.  When he (finally) gets to sleep (or before he gets to sleep), we turn on the air filter (or fan) in our room pointed away from him.  The constant hum of the noise from the air filter helps babies sleep for some reason (he rooms with us for now, until he gets older--he's only 3 weeks old).

I've heard of some mothers having to put their babies in their car seats and drive around the neighborhood when they've tried everything, yet nothing would settle the baby.  And they said it worked.

Last, but not least, we always bathe him with the calming milk bath, made by both Johnson & Johnson or Baby Magic.  As long as his bath takes less than 5 minutes, he won't get too fussy with that, and it really does seem to calm him down.  (Sometimes pouring little cups full of lukewarm water on their tummies while in their baby bathtub really help moves their bowels or gas.  And if nothing else, it does help them relax.)

I hope some of this information might help.

    Good Luck with everything!

And Congratulations on the new addition to your family!
