  1. trust me... it's good enough!

  2. save your money and buy jl audio 13'' subs

  3. save your money for 2 12s get a ported box

  4. Get an am radio.

  5. Two 10" subs can be great if they're decent subs, you put them in the proper enclosure and run them with a powerful enough amplifier.

  6. If the sub is good should sound pretty good.  I am running 2 pairs of Memphis audio 5.7, Memphis audio MCD500 amplifier and a single JL Audio 10W3v3 2ohm sub.  It hits plenty hard and the sound quality is excellent.  Two 10's if you invest will sound great, you can buy to cheap 12's and find yourself disappointed.  Look at JL Audio and Memphis Audio.  Memphis will have some subs for a person on a budget.  I bought one of their entry level subs for $39 for my work van and it sounds fairly good, can't compete with my JL but then again the 10w3v3 is like a $200 sub.  Good luck

  7. Do your home work before buying anything! Two quality 10's will sound better than two off brand 12's any day. Be sure you have enough amp power to push them or you will be very disappointed. You want your amp to push about two thirds of the rated wattage of your speakers. Be very careful if you decide to buy any stereo equipment used!!! It will come with no warranty and is often up for sale because it has been abused or damaged! There is nothing worse than being stuck with something you are dissatisfied with or that doesn't work. I have about $3500 worth of car audio that I bought new, piece by piece, on ebay for about $1800. Overstock, last years models and closeouts that all came with factory warranties. Seriously Dude, check out ebay. Good luck and be carefull.

  8. They can be loud especially in a ported box, my friend had 2 12 85 rms and they make his expedition vibrate crazy. So 2 10's should be enough

  9. The 10's will be good enough! Save your money!

  10. save your money for some 12's. look on your local craigslist.org you can probly pick up 2 nice 12's for cheaper then 2 10's new. i got a $1300 sstem for 500 bux on there. sometime people are just desprete for money.

hifisoundconnection.com and onlinecarstereo.com and some good sites to pick up stuff for cheap.

  11. It's plenty don't worry about it.  If you want it louder you can always get a ported box.  that will make it louder :D

  12. I have your answer for you. Most of these people are giving you information based on personal accounts. I will tell you that ten's can be very loud. When these people tell you that "their ten is louder than their friend's twelve," that's not a good comparison because you have to take two similar woofers (same power, impedance, etc.) and compare them.

I'll give you some numbers that are facts rather than personal opinion. What you're looking for is dBSPL, or decible sound pressure level. The higher the dBSPL, the louder your sub is. Let's look at JBL as they make some GREAT stuff.

Their P1022 woofer is a 10 inch dual voice coil woofer. It has 400 watts RMS, and 1600 watts max. When in a ported box with the manufacturers specs, it has ~112 dB max inside the car, and ~94 dB max outside the car. Now these are rough specs based on testing that the company did and can change based on your vehicle, box, amp etc., but it should be good enough for our purpouses.

Now let's look at their P1222. Once again it is 400 watts RMS and 1600 watts max. It is identical expcept that it is a 12" woofer. It has ~114 dB max inside the car, and ~97 dB max outside.

Now these specs depend on the box efficiency and many other factors, but you probably won't be able to notice 2-3 dB difference that the twelve inch woofer has over the ten. The other thing to remember is that a vented box (which is what these specs are based on) will be loud over a wide range of frequencies, but a bandpass box will be a little louder over a narrower range of frequencies.

If you take into consideration the extra size and weight of 12 inch woofers, they aren't really worth the extra 2 dB you will gain. It's all about how you tune your system, and if you get good components.

  13. Remember the bigger the sub, the more air it will move, the more air it moves the deeper the bass will be. Go with the 12", bigger sub more air it will push and the bass will be better. Build yourself a proper box and you will not be disappointed, the box has a lot to do with the bass, I just got done building my 3rd box and finally I got it right and my 2 Lanzar 1234D 12" powered by a Lanzar Opti 4000D hit so hard that its hard to breath in the car. Remember the 10" will sound good but the bigger the sub the more air it will be able to move, the more air the more bass. Hope that helps.

  14. save your money and get 2 12's or after a while you'll want louder and regret not doing it

  15. You don't even really need subs. My 6.5"s put out enough bass to shake my mirrors, a single 12" would probably give the best sound quality on a budget.

  16. i have one 10 that can hit harder than my friends 2 12's. its all the amp and how you set it, and the subs you get, also depends on your car to. but 2 10's will get better bang than 12's. your amp should be mono or bridge it with a 2 channel amp. dynomat helps trunk rattle keep that in mind!

  17. i had 2 jl audio w6 10's with the jl v2 500/1 and they hit harder than most 12's. the key is the right amp on speakers.

  18. I hit mid/high130s with two good quality 10" DVC subs in my daily driver. Running 500watts RMS. Depending on the construction and the configuration, 10s can do as well or even outperform larger subs(I used to have "See tens...Hear fifteens..." painted across the back of my Blazer). Just do some research on what you're buying and get the best quality you can.

If you get the tens make sure to build yourself a good solid ported box and you'll be happy with it.

  19. This is not a fair comparison as you will have factors that play a key role in which is louder than the other.

    1. Cone area:  of course bigger seems better in terms of moving air however the size is not a sole factor.

    2. Stroke:  the further the cone can move the more air it will push.  A smaller cone with more throw can outdo a larger one with less throw.

    3. Sensitivity: the more efficient one will take less power to get louder.  If all other specs were the same it will make a big difference.

    4. Box type: generally ported is louder, but is also larger as well for the same sub.

    5. Power: the more power it can handle, the more spl it can produce on a comparative sensitivity level.

So you see it could go either way with any sub setup. You should compare those aspects stated between the two pairs you're looking at.  Then get the best you can afford with your budget and maximize the install to get the most out of the subs you've opted for.
