I am looking to add subs to my system. I just installed 6x9's but I want MORE bass. I don't have a lot of space So i'm looking at 2 10's (Pioneer TS-W257D2, 350w RMS-1000w max) or a 15" Kicker 05CVR152, 500w RMS-1000w max.

Which do you thing will hit the hardest. I listen mostly to rap and a little rock. I want to make sure that I have good SQ and bass you can hear from a while away.

  1. the kicker 15

  2. i whould go with the 15 inch kicker my freind has one with a 1600 watt mono amp and it is so loud you cant even process thoughts lol i can hear him from very far away

  3. I would go with the CVR and since you wanted just one cvr it would only need a 500w amp instead of a 700w amp if you went the tens

  4. There's so many factors here to consider. First off, there's the subs themselves and the air space required for them to function properly, as well as the enclosure type recommended for the application. Then there's power handling, sensitivity (1W/1m, measured in dB), and then the transfer function--as in, a trunk, a pickup truck, a hatchback, an SUV, etc..

Without looking at the sub(s) and not knowing those things, it's hard to answer. But, with the type of music you listen to and the fact that you want SQ, I'd recommend a sealed enclosure. You lose some boom, but not too much--and the sound is infinitely better for most applications. As for the 15" or the 2 10" subs, the sensitivity for the 10" subs is 87 dB. This means that at 1 watt of power, 2 of them would provide roughly 90 dB before enclosure variations and transfer function come into play. The 15" has a sensitivity of 89.1 (call it 89) dB, so at 1 watt you're at 89. Since their power handling capabilities are similar, you're roughly 1 dB louder with the 10" subs. Also, smaller subwoofers (arguably) sound a little better for fast bass applications such as rock.

So, with the limited information I have, I'd say the 2 10" subs are just a tad better for boom and SQ. Sorry to get all technical, but with a little leg work you can make sure you get exactly what you want. Either way you go, I guarantee you'll blow away those 6 x 9 speakers though--sub bass is SUCH a nice addition to a system. Good luck!

  5. i think you should get the kicker. cause it uses less space but it hit's REAL HARD. i have a single 12" solobaric kicker and hits like theres 2 of them. and if you want hella bass make sure that the amp powers all the bass not your deck. cause the deck will blow up. good luck

  6. I'd definitely go with the 2 10"s.  They're known to hit a lot harder than the larger sized subs.  Also, I've been told that 10"s have very good sound quality overall.  Word of advice, get the Alpine Type R's, can't go wrong.

  7. i have the same question.
