I have a 2.2L non-ecotech non-ohc 97 cavalier that i replaced the head in the only thing I'm missing is where one of the vacuum hoses goes to. I have the one going toward the front strut tower i have the one that mounts onto the canister type thing on the fuel rail (i know there's a name for it but i forget it sorry if i sound dumb). I thought the other line ran behind the intake but even with an inspection mirror i can't see where it connects. HELP PLEASE!

  1. The "canister type thing on the fuel rail" is your fuel pressure regulator. The one "going toward the front strut tower" sounds like the EVAP Canister (for gas fume storage).

    At the bottom is a link to a vacuum diagram that applies to 1997 Cavalier with the 2.2L, engine VIN code "4". Should be the 8th character of the VIN, visible through the windshield, on the drivers side, top front of the dashboard. 17 digits altogether, like this;

    Sounds like it might be the one marked "to access", which would probably go to a "Tee" on the firewall, which then branches off to the Power Brake Booster, into the car to the Heater Controls, and possibly a few other devices.

    In that case, what you're looking for is a little device with hookups for at least two hoses and an electrical plug-in. Probably on the passenger side, to the rear of the charcoal (EVAP) canister along the inner fender, or possibly on the firewall towards the passenger side. These two pics are supposed to be purge solenoids for your car. The one that you're looking for should be very similar, and missing a hose.  ;-)
