Is there any way to connect 2 DVRs to 1 HDTV?

I am now using a DirecTV HR20 receiver, but I'd like to also be able to use my Tivo 10-250 (Hughes) HD DVR. Is there any way to connect both of them to the satellite signal in a way that would allow me to switch back and forth, maybe through my Denon receiver or something?

I want to be able to use the extra recording capacity of both receivers, plus I have content stored on the Tivo hard drive that I'd like to be able to access. Thanks.

  1. You should be able to do this with a satellite multiplexer sold through many retailers.  This set-up would be similar to a multiroom set-up from the same satellite dish, except that both of the receivers are in the same room.

You then need to switch the video output from the set-top boxes to the TV if it only has one compatible input (I'm presuming component out).  If your Denon receiver has a built in source switch for component video, you can use that, otherwise you'll probably need a component video switch as well.

Try asking your question on the DirecTV forums. You may get a better answer there:

  2. You can use them both, but they would have to be on seperate inputs. i have a similar setup use it for pip. They only bad thing is that you wont get a lot of the new hi-def cannnels with the tivo system because of the new sats. and it doesn't convert the b-band signal like the Hr20 Dvr. Hope this helps.  You may need to run a third line from your multi switch so you can enjoy both.
