  1. Every Boxer has a weakness that can be exploited.  You can come up with a plan to beat ALI.  The trick is FINDING the Boxer who can actually Execute such a plan.

Here is the irony of it.

I rank ALI first at Hvt.  on my all-time list.  He's followed, in order, by Joe Louis, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis.  Joe Louis comes close to being able to execute a plan.  Though I believe Joe Louis beats Larry and Lennox, BOTH have a better chance of beating ALI than does Louis.  Lennox Lewis has the best Chance.  ALI would have a more difficult time off-setting Lewis' strength than he would in keeping Holmes off balance or Pot-Shotting Louis.

People are SO Sure that PRESSURE, like Joe Frazier applied, is the way to beat Prime ALI.  I ASSURE you that, had they fought when they were Supposed to, in Late 1969, ALI would have Destroyed Frazier.  Frazier took a TREMENDOUS amount of punishment in that fight.  He Won but he was NEVER the same.  Against Prime ALI he would have taken MORE punishment. He would have been stopped.

You would have to give Joe Louis better foot work.

You would have to give Lennox Lewis a little more speed

You would have to give Larry Holmes the ability toff-set latteral movement.

Give George Forman the ability to throw straight punches and block.  A little more speed might help as well.

Give Tyson some Stamina and a more stable mind.

The rest in the top 12 just have too many deficiencies.  Marciano, Holyfield, Frazier, Dempsey, Liston, Johnson, all fall short in too many categories.

  2. I will do my best but I have to admit that he was quite possibly the most difficult fighter in history to fight.  He was hard to hit, he got under people's skin, and he demoralized opponents with his antics.  The best way to fight him would be to not let him get under your skin, stick to a game plan, and don't fall for his rope-a-dope.  Ali fought backing up and countering opponents punches.  I would recommend trying to get him to engage you, this may have an impact on him by taking him out of his game plan.  If you find yourself in a position where Ali has his back on the ropes, don't swing like a wild man.  Focus on trying to connect with good power shots, and try to avoid his deadly counter punches.  The other thing I would recommend would be to... pray he doesn't put you to sleep.

  3. This is a hard question to answer because you need a fighter who can box and be fast like Ali.  I'm talking the first fight with Liston Ali.  I'll combine two heavyweights to equal a fighter Ali would have trouble with.  Sonny Liston with Eddie Machen speed.
