Just because you stereotype someone, doesn't mean you are a racist. Now if you decide to live your life according to those stereotypes, then you are racist. Maybe not in such a evil way(such as the kkk) But enough to discriminate based on race (that is if you mean racial stereotyping)

Also some stereotypes are mild and others can be offending. Lets say i'm playing basketball. and there is a white guy on my team. It's ignorant to assume that he is a good 3 point shooter because of his skin color. But this would be a mild stereotype, now if i invite a black family over and  offer them kool aid, chicken and watermelon while blasting bet on the television thinking that would be good for them, THAT would be offensive....even if they happened to end up liking it.

Bottom line, its not the thought that makes you racist, its why do you think that way and how you deal with it.
