Alright, if you have a bike that needs a new top end, do you have to bore out the cylinder over stock bore. Or can you just the same size piston in it.

  1. you can use the same size piston if the sleeve isnt in bad shape.

If it were me i would bore it because it will already be apart and you can get a little more power out of it.

    hope this helps

  2. You don't have to rebore if you can fit the same size piston. Same size piston will only refresh a bit. But a rebore should bring back to original performance.

  3. it all depends, but usually you do not have to have it bored out unless you damaged the inside of the bore. Take the cylinder to the local dealership and have it Mic'ed. They will tell you if you  need to bore it or just have it  honed out.

But it is always better to just hone it out, and put in a new piston and rings.....

  4. It depends on what kind of condition your cylinder is in, if your engine blew up or the piston seized then you will need to bore it. You might even be able to get away with running a ball hone through it. Your best bet is to get a cylinder bore gauge and see if the cylinder is out of round or not. Your local machine shop should be able to help you out with this. There is a lot of precision measuring that needs to take place to do this job correctly. I'm not saying that you need to blueprint your engine but you definitely need to make sure that your piston to cylinder clearance is within specification. If not you'll just keep doing the job over and over again

  5. just put the same size piston back in unless there is damage
