  1. 2 stroke

By the way Ricardo, they use two stroke engines in lawn mowers and weed wackers because they need to have a really small engine with enough power to do the job.

  2. 4 strokes are more dependable, and have plenty of power to do what you want. 2 strokes dont make very good trail bikes because of there high torque you always have to keep them reved up on the trails. If you do get a 2 stroke i would get a kawasaki KDX220, there the only 2 stroke that i like on trails, but i wouldnt do any freesyle with it. 4 strokes you have alot of good choices from KTM, Kawasaki, suzuki, yamaha, & honda. i like the yamaha WR 400 it is a great trail bike and you can do some freestyle with. KTM also has a great trail bike but all of there stuff is over priced imo

  3. If you were ever going to really get into freestyle you will have to go with a 2-stroke....While doing some of the freestyle tricks 4-strokes stall out...(Big trouble) 2-strokes run upside-down...

I think its best for people learning to ride to start on a 2-stroke..With a 2-stroke you have to work the bike..You have to be working the clutch all the time...You have to keep it in the power band..4-strokes make for lazy riders...

Dont get me wrong...Once you get good at riding and have mastered a 2-stroke....then...4-stroke is the way to go...You take the 2-stroke riding skills with you to a 4-stroke...

Hope I am making sence to ya...

    Good luck and have fun..

  4. A two stroke is alot easier to maintain heres one thing you don't have to check the oil and you learn to be a better rider on a two stroke If the company's still made two strokes people would still be winning races on them.

  5. Obviously everyone has different opinions on this subject. One thing that a couple folks mentioned was that a 2 stroke has better torque. The 2 stroke actually has far less torque and low end power compared to a 4 stroke. If you will be riding mostly trails definitely go for the 4 stroke. 2 strokes do not make good trail bikes for a novice rider. As far as freestyle is concerned, yes all freestyle riders use a 2 stroke. In your case this is not an issue. If you were at a level to do real freestyle riding you wouldn't be asking which bike to get on YA. As to the answer saying that riding a 4 stroke makes for a lazy rider. I completely disagree with that . I do understand the logic behind his point, but do not agree. Yes you have to ride more aggressively on a 2 stroke to keep it in the power band, but if you are a real competitive racer the fact that you aren't in first place is motivation enough to ride aggressively, and if you aren't a serious racer you don't need to be riding aggressively. I have raced motocross, flat track and hare scrambles for 30 years, almost all of those years on a 2 stroke so I am not biased against the 2 stroke machine. I can say however that the modern 4 stroke race bike is the best thing that ever happened to off road motorcycle riding/racing. It is a superior bike in every way, except price maybe.

  6. it mostly depends on your riding style, but i personally prefer a two stroke and I think they're better with freestyle

Two strokes have a "snappier" power band, they're cheaper and they take less maintenance. Plus they are lighter, which is a good thing when you're trial riding and you have to pick it up off a cliff or something. And if you haven't bought the bike yet, (depending on your ability) I would recommend a KTM 200 xcw, they're an excellent woods racing bike and are considered the ultimate woods weapon. I love mine, and it can tackle just about anything. If you like more power, though, opt for the 300. They're a little wearing, though.,..

  7. tough call. 2 strokes are powerful and easy to maintain and 4s are perfect for trail or cross country riding and easier on ur wallet.

id say 4 stroke, an F-class will do anything

  8. 4 stroke engines are better, they put more power and are more efficient, which is why they are used in cars and 2 strokes are used for weed wackers & lawnmowers

  9. depends on how willing you are to take care of the bike.

2 strokes are great for quick power, and torque, however, they are finicky and prone to breaking down often

4 strokes are cleaner, more efficient engines, and the torque is in the higher gears. easier to take care of and maintain.

  10. Perhaps you need to narrow down your list of what uses the bike is going to be put to as you would not use a 4 stroke for freestyle and a 2 stroke is not as good for trail riding.  Most people are going away from the 2 strokes for racing due to pollution and availability.  Honda are not producing them anymore and the ones produced in the last few years did not have any development done on them so they are basically the same bike you would have bought in 2005.

For trails the 4 stroke is a much more even ride and you don't have to have the bike revving hard all the time to climb. But you would need to think what you are really going to use the bike for as if you are going to be doing a bit of motox then you should perhaps go for something like a 250f.  If not then you could look at a 230f.

But you could not use either of those for freestyle.

  11. I am going to throw something else out there.

Are you going to be wrenching on your own bike? Cause if you are a 2 stroke is way easier to work on.

I ride a 4 stroke because I got a good deal on one so maybe that should be one of your factors. Are you buying used or new? Look at craigslist and cycletrader and see what you find. Maybe you'll get lucky and that will be the deciding factor for you.

To me it sounds like you need a thumper but you should really decided for yourself. Ride your friends bikes and see what you like.

  12. More and more people are going to four stroke engines, since the EPA is trying to eliminate the 2 stroke engine since they say in causes more pollution.

  13. Ok listen to this because i made the same mistake of buying a 2-stroke for trail riding. But i'm gonna tell you the Pros and Cons of Both.

    2-Stroke

Pros-Very fast, Lots of torque, and powerbands

Cons-Foul Plugs in Trails, Foul Plugs if you ride for 1 min, and they need to be rebuilt every 40 hours or so.

    4-stroke

Pros-Dont foul Plugs as easy, Low in Torque, good for trails, and the track

Cons-They are not as fast as 2-strokes, low torque (good or bad)

I personally have the same problem and i am currently selling my 1996 Honda Cr250r 2-stroke.
