I noticed across our street one girls inthe tree and another young girl on the ground. The girl in the tree was handing her baby robins that were fully hatched. I went out there and asked what they were doing they showed me the birds, which had feathers on them and were stil babies but you could tell they were probably big enough to fly. The mother Robin was freaking out!!!!!. Anyways they put the babies back in the nest, my question is will MAMA robins still take care of them even though they were touched by humans???

  1. They will be fine mom will take care of them. The human scent on baby birds is an old wives tale, the only known bird that has sense of smell is the Vulture. Tell those girls to leave baby birds alone.

  2. keep an eye on the nest....EVERYDAY.

They may or maynot, if you notice the mother neglecting them, then you may wanna take the babies in your house and raise them. :)

  3. Yes, they will still care for them touched or not..birds have a poorly developed sense of smell and will not abandon chicks that have been touched..this is just and old wives tale..probably to keep girls like this from touching chicks.  Tell them to leave the robins alone and not to approach the nest again.  Thanks for making them return them to the nest..this was the right thing to do.

  4. I agree that you should watch and see if the mother still feeds the young, and keep the kids away. If she doesn't come back, you have a few options. You can finish raising the babies if you feel comfortable caring for them. Otherwise, you could search out a wildlife rehabilitation program in your area. The difficulty of raising the birds really depends on age. The older they are, the easier, because that's less time before they are independent. You can probably find commercial feed for baby birds, as well.

  5. it dependes if the moma bird dose not come back you need to keep a eye on the nest to see if she comes back if she dose not come back you need to take then and get a heating lamp and a tote without the top put hay on the bottom of the tote and the heating lamp on them at all times utill there fethers grow all the way in and untill they are able to fly then they dont need the lamp but the need worms every hour on the hour then every week feed them less and less but only one week at a time.

if you need any more info e-mail me asap

  6. maybe maybe not. I'd keep an eye on the nest and also make sure the girls STAY AWAY from the nest.
