2 air conditioner questions: security & window screen.?

Please answer either one or both:

1) My apartment is on the ground level in a not-so-great neighborhood. Does installing a window air-conditioner make it really easy to break in?

2) Do you have to remove the window screen (set 4.5 inches back from the window) in order to install a window air conditioner?

the window screen will have t be removed. Usualy there are s***w holes in the rim around the AC for securing it if not make some of your own. I would rather break a glass window than deal with an AC unit hitting the floor if I was looking for a place to enter.

You are right to have concern. If you do not install the AC with regard to someone just pushing the unit inside and coming in you will be invaded.

The window Screen is a hazard unless you keep it clean, get rid of it.

Yes....someone can just take the unit out of the window no matter how well it is secured and yes the screen will need to be removed.
