  1. x = cost of apple

    y = cost of orange

    2x + y = 1.35

    x + 2y = 1.20

    x = 1.20 - 2y

    2(1.20 - 2y) + y = 1.35

    2.40 - 4y +y = 1.35

    -3y = -1.05

    y = 0.35

    x = 0.50

    Apple = $0.50

    Orange = $0.35

  2. apples cost 50 cents.

    oranges cost 35 cents
