Question:

2 baby birds fell out of their nest?

They are really small, and look like they were just born. The nest is 20ft up in a tree. I gave them some water thinking it would help them. What should I do to save them?

  1. Give them water and food. Take some gloves and move them to shade or carefully back into the nest if they are alive. If you put them back into the nest make sure that the mom bird isn't there or she could peck or hurt you.

  2. If the bird is fully feathered, it is most likely a fledgling and has left the nest on it's own and it's parents are caring for it. It is normal for birds to leave the nest before they can fly.   You need to replace it where you found it..preferably in a scrub or tree so it is relatively safe from predators, and the parents should come back to feed it.  If it is unfeathered...then look for a nest and if you can find it...replace it into the nest. You can also "make" a nest using a basket with a handle and use grass and twigs for warmth, then tie the basket as high up into the nest tree as possible.  If the parents can hear their begging calls they will continue to feed them.  Do not worry about your scent being on the chick..birds have a very poorly developed sense of smell and will NOT reject a baby that has been touched.  If you cannot find a nest, or the basket is not working and you see no parents tending to them after a couple hours.. get the bird to a local wildlife rehab for it's best chance of survival.  Also, keep in mind, it is illegal for you to try and raise this bird on your own.  Look for a rehab here:

  3. RELAX! THEN PUT THEM IN A BOX WITH GRASS IN IT. WHEN YOU HAVE DONE THAT, PUT THE BOX AS HIGH AS YOU CAN GET IT.

IF THE MOTHER DOESN'T GO TO THE BOX WITHIN AN HOUR, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO FEED THEM YOUR SELF.

TO FEED THEM, CUT UP WORMS OR BOLOGNA, AND USE TWEEZERS TO PUT THEM IN THE BIRDS MOUTHS.

  4. try to get them back in their nest. If you don't, they won't stand a chance.

  5. well if u can reach the nest put them back but if u cant and u want pet birds whoo! but dont worry bout the momma bird smelling ur scent on the babies its only a rumor.

  6. Unless you can safely put them back in.........they don't stand a chance. Nature is cruel sometimes :o(

  7. go to www.starlingtalk.net and you will find the info needed to care for the birds.  NEVER feed worms!  NEVER put liquid directly into a baby birds mouth.  You can feed soaked dog food/cat food and starling talk has the recipe you will need....

  8. i agree with what the first person said. i too had a problem like this couple years ago and the birds died you cant feed and nuture them enough for them to survive. Best bet is to see if you can place them back into the nest.

  9. two years ago the same thing happened to my family.  The avian center said if you can place them back in there nest to do so.  However if it is too high than you can try to make a makeshift nest out of a shoebox, a very small shoebox, nest size, and put very fine twigs and straw or grass shredded cotton balls (very little under the twigs and straw) and securely (if you can nail it it would be best) to a branch you can reach) the mom will find them if it's from the tree they fell from.  But be wary for the mom becuase she may swoop at you and try to bite you

Type in avian rescue and whatever state you live in in the google search it'll give you directions on what your local state avian center wants you to do

  10. if you are in australia and is a native bird you would call wires on 1 3000 WIRES. They are volunteers who look after injured wildlife.

If its a feral bird they will kill it. Harsh maybe?, they do an excellent job at looking after native wildlife anyway and thats a bad part that comes with it.

  11. get a big ladder and some gloves and try to get them back up there.  Make sure momma bird isn't around or you may get pecked

  12. I doubt the mother will accept them anymore, unfortunatly--you're scent is on them, and they now seem unfarmiliar to the parents. You can try putting them back, but I don't think that they have much a chance, unfortunatly. As a vegetarian, it always pains me to see little bird eggs on the ground, but I know that its unfortunatly the way of life.

  13. I would try to see if there is anyway to carefully put them back in the nest with some gloves. If they were just born you have to be REALLY careful and gentle. If that's not possible, try taking them in for the night and giving them water and hopefully they will survive the night. They have a higher chance of doing so than if you leave them outdoors. In the morning or if something is open right now, try seeing if a pet place/vet/zoo will take them in to save them. I doubt they won't try to help!
