I got a guinea pig for $100.00 (I only payed half of that) and so did my brother. My guinea pigs name is''Mickey'' and my brothers is "Parrie" (like Parrie the platupus on Phinneas and Ferb). Anyway, I have a cat named Tabby and a dog named Lucky. Is there anything I need other than:

food

water bottle

food bowl

water

cage

toys

P.S I am only 9

  1. Oh wow. NEVER use tang. It is full of sugar and has no vit C. It is an old school method and pretty useless.

Read over www.guinealynx.info and www.guineapigcages.com for proper care info

  2. YOU NEED:

stuff for the bottom of cage ex:) yesterday's news, wood chips

    water bottle

    food bowl

    food

    water

    cage

    toys

    HOUSE TO HIDE IN

i got my guinea pig at the age of 9, i'm now 13, he died at 3 years because of a sickness... good luck with them...

  3. Make your pigs family pets. Get your parents together with you and your brother, and looks over these sites:

    http://www.guineapigcages.com/index.htm

    http://www.guinealynx.info/index.html

This way the whole family is involved and you will all know how to care for your pigs. Are they living together? Are they male or female? Pigs are much happier if kept in pairs.

I agree with Susan...never use tang.

    Good luck.

  4. For the cage, make sure it is big and roomy. If they are both boys are they being caged together? If you said yes, then they need a lootttt of space, like 8 square feet, and two of everything.

Everything means two water bottles, two food dishes, and two hidey houses. Otherwise they will fight.

For food, make sure they always have timothy hay and a food pellet that has timothy hay as the first ingredient.

Also, they need fresh veggies sometimes so they can get vitamin c. I would say give them each a small handful of romaine, not iceburg, lettuce everyday, and maybe a carrot or some parsley or another veggie.

They don't like many toys. They mainly like stuff like cardboard boxes and empty toilet paper rolls. Some also like those hanging bells things.

Make sure they have a little house or hut or tube to hide in. They like security and it makes them happier.

Make sure the cage does not have a wire bottom and whatever you use for bedding is good for them. Some wood shavings are not good for guinea pigs. I think it's pine that's bad, but I can't remember. I'd reccomend using Carefresh or putting towels in the cage with a layer of fleece blanket over that. It's what my piggies like best. You just have to change out the Carefresh often or if you use fleece, vaccuum off the poops on top and then throw the towels and fleece in the washing machine without fabric softener.

If you need any help then look at the pages in 'sources' or feel free to ask me. I know that the people in the forums on www.caviesgalore.com are really nice and helpful. Good luck on your new pets and I hope this helped!

  5. bottle of tang. Place 1 tablespoon in little bottles and 2 in the big ones. Change each day. Do not use wire bottom cages. If you have one just place a piece of cardboard or newspaper on the bottom. Never use chlorophyll or cedar shavings. Offer carrots so that he keeps his teeth wore down. Cut nails when they grow. The tang is the best things for vitamin c. Also can give orange slices in addition to the tang water. If the cavy does not have c each day they get pneumonia very easily and die. Never pay over $25 for a cavy.

  8. all i can say is good Luck

  9. everything that everyone above has said but i find it a bit pointless to repeat it

and something to stimulate (stop them getting bored)

you could get a brick with holes in and put the food in the holes so they have to find it or i feed mine from a toilet tube sometimes so they have to work out how to get the food

  10. Maybe get some brushes and combs. A run, so they can have some grass every once in a while. A good quality bedding (I recommend Carefresh). Some treats, they love their treats. Plenty of hay. Make sure to give them loads of cuddles and sometimes let them have a run around in a secure room. Also, make sure your dog and cat can't get into the cage, especially if they're a bit too interested =) My poodle is obsessed with my piggies!

  11. Guinea pigs like hay a lot the Timothy kind is the best because it has fluffy things. Also they really like fruits and vegetables but be careful not to give them really watery foods because it's not good for them. I'm jealousss because my guinea pig died last year and I'm not allowed to get a new one :l is yours a smooth haired kind? I think they are cutest :)
