Question:

2 cycle boat motor fuel system?

I have never owed a boat, it would look to me as though it would require a fuel pump. I am wanting to add a boat tank to my generator. I think I will need to either place the tank above the motor or use a fuel pump. I have been told that I will not because of the boat tank. How can that be? Is it possible that the 2 cycle boat motors have a built in pressure system that is created in the crank case by the down pressure from the piston?

  1. u need pump or tank above....

  2. Your 2-stroke generator likely originally had a gravity feed tank (the tank needs to be higher than the engine to get fuel to the carb).

An outboard boat motor draws its own fuel; there is no fuel pump in the tank like there is in a car.

Inboard motors are a different story. Some have fuel pumps mounted next to the tank, some just have fuel pumps mounted on the engine.

  3. the tank will have to be above the generator because it is gravity feed,  boat motor have a fuel pump to pump the fuel but there is a fuel bulb between the tank and the motor you pump the fuel to the motor and then the motor pump takes over.
