I just got a new pit-bull puppy named Tyson, and my shitzu mixed with jack-russel names Zoey is really upset. Zoey is almost 2 years old, we only had her for almost a year.

Zoey is salivating everywhere really bad, like dripping out of her mouth and her beard is covered in spit.

How can I get them to get along?

  1. it take time,,,you just have to make sure zoey gets the same amount of love you did before and the name with tyson and in them they will be the best of friends you just have to make sure zoey knows you are not replaceing her,,,,,that you just got her a friend and in time she will be fine

    hope this helps

  2. Give him some time, they will get use to each other. My dog salivates at the mouth when he goes tot he dog park, he gets really excited.

  3. She needs time.

  4. Your Zoey sounds as if she's nervous about the puppy.  You need to let them spend time together, with you being there, to get them used to each other.  She's been the only pup, and now there's someone new.  It will take time, just be patient.  They should eventually get used to each other.  Good luck!

  5. It sounds as if Zoey was never socialized and can't mentally handle another dog. You will have to move really slowly and keep them separated in different parts of the house while you work on socializing her to other dogs. Try to get her out and to meet a new dog every day. Eventually she will be able to accept another dog.

  6. Dogs have to figure out where they stand in the pack when you introduce a new member.  She'll be fine.  Just spend time with them and they'll work it out.

  7. I had the same thing with me before. but all you have to do is let the play together and you make sure you have something that is tyson and give it to zoey. zoey needs to get use to tyson smell and the way he smell first. my dog  are both pit-bull i first got the oddy and later brought the boatiewhen he was a baby home and oddy was like that too but after he got use to baby smell he lovees boatie so much...=] my job got a lilttle easier... yeah so you should try that!!

  8. It is really important that this process is done slowly.  The reason Zoey is salivating so much is because she's stressed out and you're right she's very upset.  Up until now Zoey has been the only dog in the house and now you've disrupted her whole world by brining in another dog.  It sounds dramatic but its true.

First and for most you have to spend equal or MORE time with Zoey now that the puppy is in the picture.  She shouldn't have to feel like she's competing for your attention with this new dog.  Second, the two dogs need to be separated for a couple of weeks to allow them to get to know each other.  What my husband and I did a few months ago when we rescued a second dog was this:

We invested in a play pen where we could put the puppy and still keep an eye on him.  This gave our other dog the chance to get use to the fact that there was another puppy in the house without fighting.  There are a ton of resources online that will help you in integrating your new dog.  This is a very critical time and it's very important that this is done right. Here are a couple of good sites to check out with some good pointers.

Remember that patience is the key.  This is not something that is going to happen over night but will take weeks to accomplish.  Even over the next few months there may be some outbreaks in fighting but you just have to stick with it.  You can do it!!
