The earth has been photographed from space many, many times.  It is an oblate spheroid not a perfect sphere but you couldn't tell that just by looking at it - it appears perfectly round.

Pre-space age:  The earth has been circumnavigated - people have been going completely around the world many times now, and I've never heard any mention of anyone "rounding the corner".

Galileo looked at the other planets in the solar sytem (well, the ones he knew about, anyway) and saw that they were both roughly spherical AND rotating.  He also noticed that Venus had phases like the moon.  That wouldn't be the case if all the planets rotated about the Earth.

We know the Earth is rotating because there are time zones.  We are able to speak with people across the world instantly, and we can ask them what time of day it is.  While one side of the world is in darkness, the other side of the world is in daylight.  This proves that the earth is a sphere.

We know that it is rotating because the Sun always comes from the east, no matter where you are in the planet.  Everywhere on the planet receives daylight and nighttime.

One of the biggest pieces of evidence we have that it is rotating is the North and South Poles.  At certain points in the year, these areas either receive daylight for 24 hours, or nighttime for 24 hours.  The sun doesn't go from east to west, it circles around in the middle of the sky.

Therefore, the Earth must be spinning on an axis.
