I want to have 2 iTunes libraries, one which will be on my Mac Hard-drive and the other will be on an external hard drive, but I want to be able to pick and choose which library I want to use as I'd like some music on my Mac if I don't happen to have my external drive or if I can't be bothered using it but also have the ability to plug in my drive and just have access to my 35gig of music without merging both libraries together.

How would I do this?

  1. Plug in your external HD. Now, open iTunes, holding down the alt/option key. iTunes pops up with a prompt, asking if you want to create a new library. select this option, and save it to your drive.
