2 ice skating questions in 1?? uk answers.

ok can someone tell me how to perform the mohawk for skate uk level 10 and if there are any exercises to help? and do i need to turn out my foot like in plier position to place on a back inside edge?

also are there any videos of Nisa field move tests ideally level 3?

  1. Well, there are open and closed mohawks and everyone does a different one first.  Closed is like a t-stop position and is better to try if you feel very comfortable with your feet directly under you with small movements (that's how I skate).  Open mohawks, where your heels almost touch, is better to attempt if you tend to learn using large and somewhat exaggerated movements (that's how my mom skates).

    As far as technique with either of these styles (and I'm not sure if UK levels are specific in whether they require open or closed), keep your knees bent, soft and strong - as you should for everything in skating - and remember that momentum is your friend.  Once you pick up your foot that you were skating forward on after the switch to the BO edge make sure you keep it somewhat close in so that it doesn't throw you off balance.

  4. Think of it this way: glide on your right leg for 3 seconds with your left led straight and behind you. then put your left foot down as if you are doing a backward left foot glide. then practice it vice verse, with your right leg up.
