2 month old infant with diareaha?

my 2 month old has had watery to soft bowel movements for a long time now, his doctor doesnt seem to concerned just said to give him pedialite.. but its horrible, i mean it stinks so bad and makes my stomach turn, he screams when i change a poopy diapers and it goes up his back and out the sides.. hes eatin around 4-6 oz a day so its not like hes dehydrated, hes peeing alot but hes just poopin gross poo

think i should be worried?

  1. Yes, the pedialyte will help keep him hydrated due to the diarrhea..however, it will also cause him to have runny poops!! I think now you can start to cut down on the pedialyte...my son had the same problem.


  2. Maybe they are sensitive to the formula you use.

  3. If you're really concerned, save one of the poopy diapers-put it in a zip lock bag-and ask your doctor to run some tests on it. My daughter also had diarrhea around that age and her pediatrician ran tests on it several times just to make sure. It always came back normal and eventually resolved on it's own.  

  4. If he's not showing any other signs of dehydration then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

    There are other pedialite products like popcycles and things, but if you just keep offering him water every hour that should be enough.

  5. Try giving some rice gruel(porridge-* the liquid only), it's effective for loose bowel and it's safe for baby.

    Wash the rice clean and boil it with plenty of water.
