previously a owner of a cockatiel experienced)anyways I found a budgie bird stray outside. It was sohungry and its face looked lost so i gave it a home. After one week i felt bad for"sunny" because he seemed lonely. I purchased a female at the store. Now i have two healthy budgies female about one year old and male about 2-3 years old, living in a medium sized cage. They are getting along well. They are not sick, so i was able to put them in the same cage, after watching them for many hours together i noticed they would be fine together in that cage. I bought a nest for them because the people at the pet store told me that they would definitly have eggs. I would like to know from your own experience how long do you think it will take for them to have eggs. I am not trying to make money off of breeding them. I just want them to do as they want. I just need some information about their relationships, eggs, and everything else there is to know. Thank you so much for helpin me thanks

  1. OK the birds are probably just FRIENDS and breeding is NOT needed. i would separate them (sorry) and put them in side by side cages.

I just want you to think about what i am about to tell you. Breeding will change your PET birds life forever.

OK do not listen to people at pet smart talk to a breeder or a vet. The birds might NOT lay eggs and just be FRIENDS. You need a nest BOX to start off if you do breed. But what would you do if they do mate but when the female is laying the egg one gets stuck (egg binding) You will have less than an hour to get medical attention to her before she dies. But looking on bright side she doesn't egg bind. But what if she she doesn't sit on the eggs? You will have to buy an incubator and turn them 6 times a day. But say everything goes just fine when they are sitting on the eggs. But do you know how to tell if the are fertile? You have to shine a bright/led light underneath about a 5-7 days after being laid and look for a red "spiderweb" if you don't see one it is infertile. OK so if everything goes right for the sitting you still have more problems. What if the female rejects the baby? (pecks at it or plucks it feathers or just ignores it)  You will have to feed it and care for it. If she doesn't feed it you wil have to. About every 2 hours at first and i doubt you know how to feed them. After feeding you have to return the bird.

Do understand all that can happen? The birds are first-time parents which mean you have a very low chance of nothing happening.

Plus after breeding you MUST keep them togather you it will be cruel to separate them. Plus in all that you can not destrub them plus they might loss that bond with you. Plus the birds will likely breed again.

Stop now before it is to late. Now they are pets but soon they will be breeding birds that careless about you.

But if you do breed RESEARCH!! get the birds vet checked and talk to breeders and vets.

Remember it costs MORE money to take care of the babies plus the birds then you will get. You need specail weaning food for mommy plus soft foods and vet visits for all those birds! Plus you have to separate the babies from the parents at least 2 weeks after being weaned and eating soft foods.

  2. You said a nest did you buy a Nest Box, because that is what they would need.  If you have babies what are you going to do with them all.  They don't have to breed, if they are not showing any inclination to breed, then just leave them alone. You might have a problem with 3 birds in a cage if they do breed.

  3. dont breed them for a start. there is no need for it just because there happy doesnt mean they need to breed. if you do decide then are you gonna keep the chicks? and no matter how many u breed u wont make money from them anyways.
