Question:

2 ohm or 4 ohm for my subs in a vented box

I am going to buy 2 alpine pdx 1000 for my 2 alpine type x subs but i dont know if i should get them wired to 2 ohms or 4 ohms and why??? which would be louder 2 or 4ohms??? (pdx can handle 1000rms at 2 and 4ohms)

  1. if it can stay stable, drop the ohms as low as you can man! more bass, but 4 ohms is always cool for just any day!

    But it depends on whether or not the boxes are ported or not, cuz if theyre not ported, i would just say go with 4 ohms....

    I got mine at 8 ohms right now, 2 the other day, and usually theyre at 4 though so i can have it as loud as i want without fear of blowin somethin out haha!


  2. Ohms are a measure of resistance. The lower the resistance the more power you're going to get out of your amp. Every amp has an ohm load rating so as long as you keep your ohms at a stable level you're fine.

    Specifically, the PDX1.1000 is rated the same at 2 or 4 ohms. which seems odd but that's what it says.

    1,000 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms (1,000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms)

    So honestly it doesn't matter.
