1. When your horse is sick. Does a vet usually come to you?

Or do you take it somewhere?

I always thought they came to you.

2. I was looking at a horse property and one said

"Great 55 GPM well with a 5 year old 1.5 Horse power submersible pump, no rust or sulfur, nice sweet water. "

Is that just a water dispenser?

  1. First of all, with the vet business.  Right now with gas prices being the way they are, some vets have really jumped up their call charges.

A couple of years ago I lived in a semi remote area just SE of Bakersfield, CA.  The veterinary office that serviced the area would charge upwards of $250.00 for a call fee (IF they had more than just one place to visit, it would drop to $90.00).  I got to REALLY resent that seeing how one of the vets in the office actually had a house just 5 miles away from us!  We finally decided that it was a heck of a lot cheaper just to trailer into the vet and let them work on the horses there.

I'm glad I moved the horses because the new vet is down the street and call charges are only $35.00!

As for your 55 GPM, I had a well drilled in '05 and not sure of the hp, but it only pumped 25 GPM which I was told was respectable, so 55 GMP is exceptional!

  2. The vet usually comes to you. But if your horse has to get surgery you usually take it to a animal hospital that treats horses.

55 GPM is a well, it produces 55 gallons per minute, and the 1.5 horse power pump is how much power it has.

  3. A. 1)   A lot of the time your vet will come to you. If your horse needs surgery or somthing major done, they will find a way to transport your horse to their veternary clinic so that it is in a very clean room while surgery.

    A. 2)   I think that is just a water dispenser so that the horses have clean automatic waterer water. Better check with the seller on that one...

    =)

  4. depends on the vet, but usually horse vets come to you.

Don't know about the other.  Sounds like they are saying that there is a well on the place and they are describing the water and the type of well pump.

  5. If your horse is sick it is usually best to have the vet come to you. you don't want to over stress an ill horse. Most vets will make barn calls. There is a trip charge so be ready for that. It would be a good idea for you to find a local vet and get him/her used to your horse now before your horse gets sick.

  6. 1. The vet should travel to you even for minor ailments. Because my  horses are so quiet to travel and the vet knows them well, I'll sometimes offer to take them to his clinic if it's something minor and they are well enough to travel. My vet always offers to come to me though.

The only time he has expressed I go to him is for xrays.

    2. That is you submersible well. 55 gallons per minute pumped up. (Sorry I don't know what ours pumps but this sounds like a reasonable amount you can get). If you phone the local drilling company in your area, they will be able to tell you all about the well and what you can do with that amount of water (ie irrigation). Drilling companies are only to happy to answer these questions.

  7. 1) the vet comes to you.

    2) yes i think...its confusing!

  8. Ours comes to us, but if the horse has, say, a severe colic or injury requiring  surgical treatment, the horse is transported to a clinic.  In the 50 some years I have owned horses, I've been to the clinic three times.

The other thing is regarding the well and the pump that brings the water up from the ground, then describes the good quality of the water that the well provides.

  9. the vet should come to you

  10. Usually the vet comes out but sometimes if it is something like bloods or vaccinations it is just as easy and saves money to load the horses up and take them down to the vets.

  11. Usually your vet will come to you!

55GPM well, is a well drilled down into the ground that produces 55 gallons of water per minute, that's pretty good. It has a submersible pump sitting on the bottom of the well that is 1.5 horse power, not bad.

It isn't exactly a water dispenser, but it seems to have nice water...but you should definately get that info confirmed if you were going to buy it!!!
