I will be leasing a pony and I am the same height as the girl who owns him but wondering if I am still going to be too tall... I have already went out to see/ride him too... Im 5ft 3 and the pony is 13.3-14HH.

  1. first off, i read the question and i dont get why people would think it was misleading. (unless they really dont know anything about horses... cause if i asked the question i'd state it the same way you have).

second, i think with you're hight and size would be okay for the poney, due to i've seen lots of girls taller then you on pony that size. i was 5'6 (okay i'm still 5'6) and my first pony was 14.2 (my guess is if you did the math we'd be the same size as you and you're pony.) my pony of 14.2 also rode in a show with my dad (who is over 6 foot) on her, and they took first (it was a fun show and for beginer adults, but they looked really flashy together).

good luck, i cant really tell about the conformattion b/c i'm still learning.

  2. Haha, I took your question the wrong way.  Now I have no answers for ya, sorry.

  3. Photo 3 made me think 'get out of my mouth' and let me ride you human.  Looks out of proportion.  Taller horse would have made a nicer visual.  Don't care for choppy pony gaits, uncomfortable, get a bigger horse.

  4. I think you are to big

  5. From what I saw, you seem a bit tall for him, imo....especially for jumping him.

Even the saddle you are riding in looks too small for you & you definitely have a lot of bend in your leg to keep it from hanging too low.

But, just my opinion.  I am 5'5" & our horses range in size from 15h.h - 15.3 h.h., but I could never ride with my legs that bent.

  6. well, I am like 5 ft and I sometimes ride a 12 HH pony.  I like him, he is cute with the blue eyes

  7. that sounded wrong until you read the bottom part

  8. Definitely wasn't thinking about horses lol ;)

  9. aw how cuute!!

lol u look great together his conformation is pretty good! he is really beautiful. :D

u dont look too tal...just dont grow.... :P

  10. i didnt think anything was wrong with your question. if u r done growing he will be ok 4 u i think but if u grow he might b to small.

if that was u riding him(i think it is) your stirrups need to be longer.

if u r jump a good height then be careful him legs may not hold up very well. but just make sure you a easy on his legs an back. i am 5 foot 3 and i ride my sisters pony and she is about 13.1 or smaller.

but i think that most ponys r pretty strong and hold up good.

  11. To be honest (not mean).. you look a little goofy on him.

    Look for something bigger.

  12. I think that you are way too tall for this pony.  Even if you are not too heavy you will have trouble having the proper jump seat on something this small.  Your long upper body will get in the way over the jumps, you will have to sit much more upright than proper.

  13. Personally I would think about getting a bigger pony. You are big for him and if he is old, then he needs to start laying the work off a bit.

Why dont you get another pony that would suit the both of you?

As for his conformation, yeah he looks good. He has a nice sturdy body and good legs.

  14. probably the perfect size, by the way .. your question title is quite misleading

  15. atleast your not fat....you dont want to crush his ***....youll be fine

  16. idk

  17. I think you are a bit too tall sorry, especially if you are still growing

    But his conformation is good

  18. He is cute. Its hard to tell from the pictures, but theres something I'm not liking about his hind end. And honestly, if you're planning on jumping, I think he's too small for you. In the one picture of you (?) riding, your knee is out over his shoulder. I imagine if you 2-point you're going to be very close to his ears.

I guess if hes your only choice, he will do. But if you have other options, I would look for something bigger.

    Good Luck!

  19. This looks like a nice pony. I personally feel that if you are as tall as that girl, that you realy would be a little too tall.

He appears to be a slightly older pony, just looking at his wither and back. I feal he'd be better with a slightly smaller rider.

At your height I'd expect you to be on a 14.2hh 148cm.

He has a placid look, but a slightly tired look. I like his head, he is a little thick through the jaw, so may find it  a little difficult to flex at the poll in a rounded frame.

He has a nice lovely length of neck, and it is nicely set on. His shoulder angle looks like that of a jumper. I love his front legs, they are very showy! He has a nice barel, starting to become a little swayed in the back. His hindquarters look well developed and his tail is correctly set on. His hocks aren't quite as strong as I like in a horse, but still good. He has nice pasterns and good hooves.

So overall I think he is a lovely pony.

If you look at the girl riding him, notice how he is holding his head quite high and looks a little resistant. I think this is coming from the rider being too big on him. If you do get him you'd need to learn to sit very lightly in the saddle and carry yourself more than this rider, then he'd move a little nicer and be a little more happy in his work.

Good luck, have you seen any slightly bigger ponies? I have a child 5ft  and she is right size on this height of pony.

  20. Actually height is Not a major issue. The only time height alone would be an issue is if you were going to show and appearing out of proportions.

Weight on the other hand is an issue, and you would have to consider his stockiness, strength and weight not just his height.

I was 5'6" and had a 11HH Pony BUT I only weighed 75lbs and she was a very stocky Highland X Shetland. Sure I may have looked a little long on her but she had no problems, she loved to go hiking bareback. I'd put a bitless bridle on her and just let her do what she wanted with me on her back and she'd always head to the hills to explore!

He is an average stoutness of a pony so keep the saddle nice & light. He also isn't too leggy so keep the jumps easy & low, if he doesn't want to do it don't force him.

Do his toes point out? It could just be the pics, it's hard to judge without seeing him move.

He is a very cute pony!

  21. If you are just riding for pleasure then go ahead and ride him but take it easy. In the pics if that is you on him then yes he is to small for you. If you are even thinking it then you already have your doubts. My 8 year old son rides a 14 hand pony and he weights 67 lbs and stands almost 4' tall. I stand 5'1" and I ride a 15.1 hand 1200 lbs TWH.

  22. yess honestly she shouldnt even be riding him you are the same height as i am and my trainer has told me that if you range from 5 ft 3 to 5 ft 5 your horse should be at least 15 hands high and it isnt about showing it is about the safety of both you and the horse.

  23. Actually...you don't look that bad on him (size-wise).  If I hadn't seen a photo I wouldn't have been 100% sure, but you look OK for his size.  As for conformation, his back pasterns slope quite a bit (how old is he?). he hasn't got much of a chest to speak of, and his shoulder looks quite straight.  Sometimes (inexplicably!) the straight-shouldered horses have gaits that feel as smooth as more slope-shouldered horses.  How does he move?  Are you planning on buying him, or is this just for a lease?  How high are you jumping?  I don't like the way he's throwing his head in that one photo, though, makes me wonder if he's sour or perhaps his back hurts.

He's cute, and if you like him and work well with him, then go for it.  A perfectly conformed horse simply does not exist!  Good luck.
