My newborn is 5 days old and he sleeps probably about 22 hours a day. He does wake up when he is hungary, or sometimes i have to wake him. So he gets enough food but is this normal? Also, I went to his first check up yesterday and he didnt lose any weight from the hospital trip? Is this normal? When he was born 7.14 when we left 7.11 and 2 days later he was still 7.11 Thanks

  1. yah taht sounds about right, i know i had the same question when my son came home, all he would do is be sleeping, but trsut me fast enought he will be wide awake and wont wanna go to bed, trust me ENJOY it while you can, and get as much sleep as you can now, cause sooner or later, you wont be getting much.

    congrats and good luck

  2. i will say it's normal/

depends on the feeding. if the baby is bottle feeding milk is more thicker and heavier to digest.. so it might be every 2 to 3 hours. if baby is getting breast feeding it could be 1and1/2 hour or 2hours.

it's better to feed the baby even though they prefer to sleep.

gaining weight is really important but they will hit the time by 3rd weeks it's called " growth spurs" they gain more weight and they get more longer too.

i am sure you are going to set another appointment for 2nd week or 3rd weeks of appointment. dr will tell you if your baby needs to gain more weight. however most of the time it's ok. my baby starts gain gradually. every week about few oz or 8oz or up to 1pound.

trust ur instinct all worry about our child. but i do believe that you are the only person will know the best for your kids.

good luck with your new baby.. i hope you don't get too tired.. get enough rest for yourself!

  3. Yes all that is normal. The good thing is that you have taken him to the doctors for a newborn check and obviously the doctor didn't think anything was wrong with his weight.Sleep is all newborn babies do, well besides eat and p**p. Don't worry.

  4. I have 5 year old son. When he was about a week old he had drs app. and had lost weight..so this is perfectly normal. Also newborns tend to sleep about 80-90% of the day...closer to 90 when they are this old.

  5. uh. why would you want your newborn to LOSE weight?  He is suppossed to twice his weight byt the time he goes to the dr next.  Newborns sleep all day long.  They are only up for an average of 4 hours a day and thats to eat or get changed or whtever.

  6. with your baby being so young waight WILL vary dont worry about that and if ur unsure have the nurse on speed dial. my daughter slept alot and did'nt cry much but now talks way too much lol

but if he sleeps that much u need to wake him to feed, at that young u shouldnt wait more than four hours inbetween feedings

  7. I think he sounds great! I can't wait- 4 days to go! He is still tiny let him do what he wants just make sure he eats and keep counting the wet diapers- you'll be fine!

  8. sounds perfectly normal to me.  Enjoy your little one!

  9. -breast milk is very good for newborns.

-they will get more immunity from it, the baby will be healthy.

-give as much as breast milk, they needs.

  10. That sounds 100% normal.  Don't worry- you'll be fine~!

  11. My son slept all the time to. You have to think they are worn out. They will sleep. If you are worried about him being to hungry wake him up and feed him.

My son didnt lose any weight after he got home either. he was 6lbs 11oz at birth. brought home at 6lbs 5oz he was the same at his check up. he never lost any just gained.
