Apparently it stands for Liquor Control Board of Ontario

but then what is it called outside of ontario??

Or what does it really stand for

  1. that is what it stands for. it's a liquor store that was created after the prohibition. and i don't think they exist outside of ontario, other provinces have many privately owned stores that sell alcohol.


  2. Most places don't have them, ha ha.  There's a thing instead called a 'free market' where firms other than the government are allowed to be in the business of buying and selling alcohol.  It's strange, I know.

    There are a few American states that have them, and they are usually called ABC for Alcoholic Beverage Control.

  3. I used to live in Ontario and now live in Pennsylvania.  When I need a trip to go to the Spirits or the State store (yeah, that's what they call it here), I tell my husband we need to go to the LCBO.

    Old habits die hard.
