2 questions about the solar eclipse on Aug. 1st!!!!!!?

Ok, so 1st I was wondering that if I live in Washington state, will I be able to see the solar eclipse? And 2nd I was wondering, do you need special equipment to see the solar eclipse? Thanks in advance!!!!!

  1. No, you won't be able to see it, sorry.  Only the partial eclipse will be visible in the US, and that is only in the eastern US.


  2. you're sol. nowhere in the u.s.a. will even see a partial eclipse. the besselian elements are available (meeus, espenak): crunch the numbers and see for yourself.

    you need eye protection for the partial phases. this is common knowledge.

  4. The eclipse will be visible in Siberia and China. So you're out of luck. And you don't *NEED* any special equipment, but it's recommended as you're looking at the sun for a while.

    The track -- 237 km wide at maximum -- begins in north Canada, passes near the North Pole, and into northern Russia. It then runs south-east into China. It is visible as a partial eclipse in Britain, though will not be dramatic.

    The maximum duration is 2 minutes 27 seconds, and the path width at maximum is 237 kilometers.
