2 questions - one cholesterol and one on knee joints?

Hey everyone,

For the last year alone I have had a rather weird affliction (if that is the right word for it) in my right-hand knee. After any physical exercise involving jogging, long periods of walking, etc the front of the knee would become rather hot. This does not happen on my left knee. I am overweight (BMI 26.5) but that has been on the decrease for the last 3 years. Is there a possibility I have ruined the cartilage already?

The question regarding cholesterol: my grandfather had hereditary cholesterol and it appears my sister has it. Can't remember what number it was exactly, but it was higher than average. I've already cut out most of the bad food and have stepped up exercise dramatically coz I am worried sick (putting two and two together with possible hereditary cholesterol and being in the overweight category!), but is this enough to lower cholesterol? Has anyone been in this situation before?
