  1. even if i could race, being slow id still lose, all but it meaning is if you take your time and not go off like a bull at the gate and make mistakes or being a smarty pants you wont make mistakes and tire out either.

as for teaching old dogs anything,my mum is a nan and she is pretty cool and up to date with lots of things!

  2. its like religion bend and twist the meanings to best suit you !

ask a baptist they will be able to give you a billion more

    and tell you about JEBUS!!!!!!!

  3. the second quote is correct.

  4. It is steady. The second one is right though.

  5. u cant always apply a qoutation on all aspect of life. some quotations become stupid when used unwisely.

besides, its just a 'saying'. Not a law or commandment whatsoever.

  6. I'm an old dog now and I can't even remember some old tricks.  So new tricks are out of the question.

  7. Slow and steady...

  8. I certainly agree with the first quote. It is about perseverance.

In our lives we often find things difficult to do, like a baby learning to talk or walk, it takes time and perseverance but in the end, all things being equal, he is soon running about and  babbling like a brook.

It is not primarily about competition but about persistant effort in overcoming difficulties in one's own life.

The old dog has been doing the same thing for many years and presumably finds it a satisfactory way to behave. You won't teach him new tricks unless you force him to view things differently. It can be done but it is a painful process ,mainly for the dog.

I am "aged" by common standards but I think, personally, that it is suicide to close my mind to new things because that's when I will be really OLD.

An old dog who is young in mind can be taught new tricks. See, I can use a computer (marginally, anyhow.)

  9. Slow and Steady wins the race. Well i actually believe it because if you rush something you are never going to do it as good as you would have if you spent your time wisely on it.

And well 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks'...i think it really depends on the dog so to speak. Some older generations can be taught new things, but it really depends on the individual.

    hope it answers it. xoxo

  10. they are both right.

    slow and sure = `patience is a virtue`

def: you can/will achieve great things by being resilient and Truth-ful (to your-self and Others)

    can`t teach..... = stubborn-ness is a down-fall to the Individual in question

def: = some-times , those stuck in their own ways and beliefs cannot be `seeing` the changes surrounding them and there-fore will be left behind. = don`t be left behind and don`t become an "old dog"   (constantly Educate your-self , above others).  Education doesn`t STOP , when you leave the Class-room.....!

  11. look out now

  12. Not sure bout da 1st question but could be slow n sure means take ya time to get it right and da other one can't teach an old dog new tricks probs refers to old people who are set in there ways and wont budge no matter what you say.

  13. If I go slow and steady, you'll win the race ;-)

This old dog is always willing to learn new tricks. Take me upstairs and teach me some ;-)

    xx

  14. Slow and sure will win, it might be slow but it is sure to win.

Slow and steady can mean anything. Slow and have steady feet, doesn't mean you will win.

  15. Hi the second one is right Hugs

  16. Slow and sure,...  works sometimes and not others. It works for marathon races ( literally and figuratively ) when the operative emphasis should be on "sure". Anyone in any kind of race has to conserve energy so as to have just enough to finish but not much left over which would be wasted insofar as the race is concerned. That's why there are sprinters and marathon runners as well as all kinds of medium-distance runners. If you watch world-class sprinters, they are totally exhausted at the end of a 100-yard race and must be assisted immediately after. Likewise for horseraces when some front-runners "fade" before the finish line.

The second ("You can't teach...") is manifestly untrue for both dogs and people. It's just that the motivation for old dogs is different from the motivation that works for young ones.

  17. Slow and steady depends on the length of the race, where do you think a 100m runner would come in a marathon?
