2 rats in 1 cage blood on the bars, but on wounds on the rats.?

i have 2 rats in the same cage. i have found blood stains on the bars of the cage, but on wounds on either of the rats. what could it be?

  1. Sounds like it could be porphyrin. A rats tears have a reddish pigment to them. If they are producing a lot of it though it could indicate stress or illness.


  2. could be biting on the bars and its teeth are bleeding

  3. If the rats are dark colored, the blood may not show on them. Look at the skin on the back of their necks. That's where mine get injured when they scuffle.

  4. maybe the rats was biting the cage and started bleeding

  5. Could be one is a female and is now menstruating.

  6. They weren't hurt you know how Women bleed and those rats are females so.

  7. Is there any porphyrin present on the rat's nose? It looks like blood but it isn't. One of my rats had a respiratory attack and got it all over the bedding, and all over the cage walls.

    It was really weird. I gave him doxycycline for a couple of weeks and he was alright.
