  1. Several types of wetlands are prairie potholes, bogs, cypress swamps, marshes, and saltwater marshes.

    Wetlands are important because they:

    1.  serve as feeding, breeding, and nesting grounds for waterfowl

    2.  provide habitat for plants and animals

    3.  absorb pollutants from water before the water reaches lakes or rivers

    4.  absorb excess rainwater and serve as natural floodplains to prevent more severe flooding

    5.  prevent a lot of the erosion that would otherwise affect banks of lakes, rivers, oceans, ...
