2-time Polytrack winner, Solar Deity to show further progress in Blue Square Sprint Series Returns January Handicap at Lingfield
No doubt, Saturday’s Blue Square Sprint Series Returns January Handicap at Lingfield is a competitive affair, which has attracted a dozen entries. In search of the winning prize worth £12,938, the participants will unleash the best of their skills over a distance of one mile. The class 2 meeting is going to get underway at 15:55 GMT.
Lockantanks and George Guru, both will become major players, if they break well. The former of the two is in slightly better form, as he strike a close ¾-length win at Wolverhampton last month. The Michael Appleby-trained was not disgraced on his latest start here at the start of November.
Lockantanks is capable of playing a big role, but the real clash is between Storm King and Solar Deity - the two in-form 3-year-olds. The Jane Chapple-Hyam-trained, who was fourth on his last two outings, has already taken a sizeable step up the handicap, and cannot be trusted blindly.
So, the vote goes to Solar Deity, who made it 2-3 on Polytrack by taking a tremendous victory at Wolverhampton last time. Marco Botti’s charge had been struggling since his debut success at Kempton last November. After making his seasonal return in April 2012, he ran a few good races, but in defeat.
Things finally turned in his favour at the start of October, when he dominated the proceedings in the Racing Post Form With Totepool Mobile Handicap. Under Martin Harley, he stunned everyone by outsmarting the 11-4 favourite, Fast Finian, by one and a quarter lengths. His excellent record on Polytrack makes him the best betting option in today’s battle.
Besides the abovementioned runners, no one is likely to make an impact. Monsieur Chevalier was well beaten on both starts for the new yard. The P. J. O´Gorman-trained also has some big stamina questions to answer.
Mia’s Boy looks smart when at best. Returning to Polytrack is unlikely to make any significant improvement in his bad form. Stepping back up to one mile is a dubious benefit for Swiss Cross, who is running respectably. Axiom, on the other hand, is on the losing run at the moment.
